The Jack Esplen Oval at Hawthorne is a key part of our local community's sporting scene. It's the home of the Morningside Panthers, and is used by local schools like Lourdes Hill College, and others.
The Siders are one of Queensland's leading local AFL clubs, in both senior and junior competitions. The last few years has seen the club steadily build on its participation levels through excellent development programs. They have a renewed focus on women's AFL, and their partnership with Lourdes is a part of that.
The strong growth rates confirm the club's strong development plan and ongoing potential for men and women players. But the back oval is terribly underused because it needs more investment to bring it up to scratch, and the lights towers need a complete overhaul. The club is campaigning hard for a federal funding contribution to the work that needs to be done.
