MORE AUSTRALIAN STORIES - LABOR COMMITS FUNDS FOR QUEENSLAND ARTS

March 11, 2019

With the Hon Tony Burke MP

Terri Butler MP, along with the Hon Tony Burke MP, will today announce a commitment of $332,900 for the Bille Brown Studio at Queensland Theatre.

Queensland Theatre has a proud tradition of telling uniquely Queensland stories, written, produced, and performed by Queenslanders.

Labor knows the value of the arts in our community and if elected a Labor Government will commit $332,900 to Queensland Theatre for the refurbishment and expansion of their Bille Brown Studio into a performance space.

Nearly 100,000 patrons see shows at Queensland Theatre every year, and the redevelopment of the Bille Brown Studio will allow that number to grow substantially.

With this money, Queensland Theatre will be able to refurbish what was once a rehearsal studio into a fully operational, 350 seat theatre, so they can continue to share Queensland and Australian stories.

“I’d like to thank Queensland Theatre for their advocacy for this project, especially the CEO, Amanda Jolly,” Ms Butler said.

“I also thank the many Southsiders who have signed petitions and campaigned for this funding,” she said.

Labor wants our stories to be told and the great storytellers of our nation are our artists; our musicians, our writers, our authors, our playwrights, our actors, our poets, our painters, our sculptors.

The Government has shown it doesn’t value art, artists and culture. Labor will turn that around.
