Terri Butler MP has today announced a commitment of $450 000 to upgrade local football facilities at Coorparoo’s Giffin Park.
“If elected a Labor Government will commit $450 000 to upgrading and expanding the facilities at Giffin Park, home of the Coorparoo Roos and a facility used by the adjacent local high school,” Ms Butler said.
“Giffin Park is one of the most utilised AFL facilities in Queensland, with nearly 1500 people using it every week, including students from Coorparoo Secondary College.
“The Roos have a longstanding commitment to women’s footy, demonstrated by their three consecutive premierships in 2013-15, their finals appearances in 2017 and 18, and their contributions to the Lions AFLW side.
“This funding will be used to build a new three quarter sized oval, which will allow more fixtures.
“The Roos will also install LED lighting around the field so training and matches can happen at night, further expanding Giffin Park’s capacity.
“I’d like to thank the staff and committee at the Coorparoo Roos for their advocacy for this project, especially the Facilities and Funding Coordinator, Dennis Bramadat.
“I also thank the many Coorparoo locals who have signed petitions and campaigned for this funding,” she said.
